Taking as its point of departure a symposium of the same title held in July 2021, the lavishly illustrated volume brings together contributions from numerous researchers from various disciplines of the Cluster of Excellence and experts from other institutions.
»Architectures of Weaving« connects architecture and textile by exploring fiber architectures from the micro-scale of biological systems to the macro scale of textile and built structures. Selected case studies, essays, and interviews reflect on cultural practices and materials research through the lens of textile thinking. In the quest for more sustainable and resilient approaches to meet the challenges of our time, the book entangles different perspectives into a new transdisciplinary fabric of thought. It presents fascinating approaches heralding a paradigm shift by working with fibrous materiality: structures become flexible and adaptive and interact with their environment. As a source of inspiration, the book assembles exceptional works from practitioners, researchers, and theoreticians from the fields of architecture, art, material science, cultural history, design, engineering, mathematics, microbiology, and textile technology.
