MATTERSCAPES. A Studio Visit
Doctoral Presentations on 27 June 2023
Under the title »matterscapes« on June 27, the 2nd cohort of the MoA doctoral program gave exciting insights into their dissertation projects. By researching modes of activating and passivating matter in respective contexts, this year’s progress presentation demonstrated and discussed the current research progress in one of the cohort’s ›natural habitats‹ — the studio on the 4th floor.
In Panel 1 – »repair, restore, regenerate« – Emma Sicher investigated regenerative practices with SCOBY and plant-based resources, Rasa Weber used design instruments to attune to an oceanic environment, Rahel Kesselring explored site-specific artistic practices within forest ecosystems, and Pelin Asa examined the reuse of insect-infested wood in human-modified forests. In Panel 2 – »adapt, transform, revaluate« – Johanna Hehemeyer-Cürten probed harvesting techniques of bark in local environments, Anna Schaeffner studied the interaction of soft robots and their milieu through the process of deformation, and Babette Marie Werner analyzed the transformation of process-based works of art to digital matter within the given spaces of archives and museum exhibitions.
The presentations gave Cluster members the opportunity for more exchange with the pre-doctoral researchers, participating in sharing ideas, identifying common ground and also offering suggestions.
