The Event of a Fibre
Essay by Regine Hengge and Karin Krauthausen on the Occasion of the Exhibition »Hella Jongerius: Woven Cosmos« Published
On the occasion of the exhibition opening of »Hella Jongerius: Woven Cosmos« at the Gropius Bau on April 29, 2021, the essay »The Event of a Fibre« by Regine Hengge and Karin Krauthausen has been published. Whether in DNA interactions, bacterial biofilms or city architectures, weaving can be a model for different and relational »ecologies of life«. Ranging across artistic practices, cell biology, and human forms, molecular biologist Hengge and cultural historian Krauthausen (both Project Weaving) examine what we can learn from nature's enmeshed processes.
The essay is available online in the Gropius Bau Journal and in the printed booklet in German and English.

The Exhibition
Under the title »Hella Jongerius: Woven Cosmos«, the exhibition focused on weaving, which is of particular importance in the work of the Dutch designer. Weaving is one of the oldest cultural techniques and at the same time the basis for the digital code. Through interactive elements, the exhibition involved visitors in Jongerius' open and processual way of working, creating a framework for critically engaging with questions of production and sustainability, present and future.
The exhibition ran from April 29th to September 15th, 2021, and could be visited in a virtual short tour during the closure of Berlin's museums due to the pandemic.
