Dr. Cécile Bidan
After a double degree (engineering/masters of research) in Materials Sciences at Grenoble INP, France, Cécile Bidan’s interest for biological materials led her to the MPI of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam. There, she pursued a PhD in biophysics on the »Geometric control of tissue growth and organization« and enrolled in the Berlin School for Regenerative Therapies.
During a first postdoc, she investigated airway mechanics and focused on the role of extracellular matrix in chronic pulmonary disease between the universities of Groningen, Netherlands and Harvard, USA. She then complemented her experimental skills by developing magneto-active substrates to investigate mechanotransduction in single cells at the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Physics in Grenoble.
In 2017, Cécile came back to the Department of Biomaterials at the MPI-CI to start the research group Principles of matrix architecture in biofilms. Since then, she is involved in »Matters of Activity« as a Associated Investigator to contribute with a Materials Science perspective in the experimental setting »Weavings in microbial biofilms«.
