CollActive Materials at Mall Anders
Join the Pop-up Materials Lab in Wilma Shopping Mall on May 20th and 21st and Bring your Kids!
The experimental laboratory CollActive Materials started with its first ever event: On Friday and Saturday, May 20th and 21st, the science communication lab hosted two days for science and public to get together and (re-)negotiate the futures of materials.
Under the headline »What is your future made of?«, »CollActive Materials« started its conversation about material presents and futures: Which personal routines and values play a role when we interact with materials in our everyday lives today? Which materials are yet to be created, discovered, or rethought? What role could active and intelligent materials play in possible futures, and how could these look like?
Program
Ideas Lab: Living Materials
Friday 20 May, 6:00-8:00 pm
with Michaela Eder and Science of Intelligence
In our ideas lab, researchers present what piques their curiosity and discuss it with the audience in a relaxed atmosphere. What makes a material come to life? Could active plants and robotic hands have more in common than we might think at first glance? Come by, meet materials and robotics scientists and share your ideas with us. Register below for one of the limited seats.
Kids Lab: Material Experiments for Children
Saturday, 21 May, 10:00 am-12:00 pm and 3:00-4:00 pm
Drop-by format, no registration needed!
Young scientists wanted! In our children's lab, we create slime, filter water and explore the worlds of light and color. Come by and discover active materials - for anyone above the age of 6.
Kombucha Workshop
Saturday, 21 May, 1:00-2:30 pm
With Bastian Beyer, Maxime le Calvé and Anne Delle
Did you know that bacteria are true gourmets? When it comes to preparing kombucha, they are indispensable as microbiological chefs. In this workshop, we taste the extraordinary drink and learn how to make it at home. Also, we share a sneak peek into our bacterial design studio. Register below for one of the limited spots.
The experimental lab is a joint project of the Berlin Clusters of Excellence »Matters of Activity. Image Space Material« and »Science of Intelligence« and is funded under the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder by the Berlin University Alliance.
