Joseph Vogl is Principal Investigator in the projects Weaving and Symbolic Material.
Award for scientific and journalistic oeuvre
The jury honored Vogl for his scholarly and journalistic oeuvre, especially for his recent work on the theory of the present and modern financial capitalism. With its decision, the jury honors an author whose critical diagnosis of the present builds bridges between disciplines, for example between literary studies and the history of knowledge, as already in the dissertation Ort der Gewalt. Kafka's Literary Ethics (1990), but also between philosophy, cultural studies and media studies, and above all between cultural criticism and economics.
Joseph Vogl has devoted himself to the latter topic since 2002, first in his work Calculus and Passion. Poetik des ökonomischen Menschen, then in three books on the specter of capital (2010), on the sovereignty effect (2015), and most recently on capital and ressentiment (2021).
