Playing Against the Crisis With »Singleton #WirBleibenZuHause«
Game Researchers from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin Become Solution Enabler for »WirVsVirus«
More than 28.000 participants took part in the #WirVsVirus Hackathon of the Federal Government against the COVID-19 crisis and more than 1.500 solutions were created. The German government now wants to implement the most promising solutions with the »Solution Enabler« program. The patron is Prof. Dr. Helge Braun, Head of the Federal Chancellery.
A team from gamelab.berlin at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) is also involved. The researchers are examining the question of how games can be used for motivation, knowledge transfer and crisis management. They have now submitted the game app »Singleton #WirBleibenZuHause« and want to contribute to the overall social management of COVID-19.
Who Reaches Level 5, Becomes at Home Master
The game is based on seeing the current situation as an opportunity and offers a variety of quickly implementable, entertaining and social ideas for everyday life in domestic isolation - and those who reach level 5 are crowned home champions.
Dr. Christian Stein, a specialist in German Philology and Computer Science and co-founder of gamelab.berlin, is now looking forward to the further development of the game together with his team. In the past weeks, more than 50 creative ideas on the crisis have already been collected and transferred into the logic of the game. Now further experts are to be involved and the game is to be adapted even better to the individual needs of its users.
The first version of »Singleton #WirBleibenZuHause« is already available free of charge and without advertising in the app stores for Android and iOS and can be played immediately.
Game Research at the Humboldt-Universität
The gamelab.berlin, which developed the game, is part of the Hermann von Helmholtz Center for Cultural Techniques at HU Berlin and consists of an interdisciplinary team of game researchers. Together they research the cultural technique of games and develop new game approaches – for example, for medicine, museums or schools. They have been working and researching on the game idea for »Singleton« for some time already. Just like a card game, you can choose from a variety of small calls to action. You play the game by performing these actions and reporting back. In this way, »Singleton« should help to master even big challenges step by step.
