Aerial Witness/ing
Speculative Workshop on July 25th-29th During »The Future of Life Summer School«
Air does not obey nor care about human-made territorial borders, yet it affects and activates various material thresholds. It redraws maps that emphasize airborne events as cartographic markers. How could we experience and analyze the interscalar elusiveness of air through climatic phenomena and strange entities such as sky rivers and air fossils?
Led by an interdisciplinary collective at Matters of Activity, this speculative workshop will explore the scientific, theoretical and ecological ways of aerial witnessing by means of designerly knowing and un/making. Cluster Members Léa Perraudin, Emilia Tikka, Martin Müller and Clemens Winkler come together at the interstices of critical humanities scholarship, speculative design and new material practices. In their joint practice, they merge manifold ways of world-making and their unmaking with metabolic thresholds and boundaries, material trajectories and infrastructures through sensing, mapping, and fabulating.
The Future of Life Summer School is an exploratory summer program organized by Bio Design Lab, an incubator for collaboration within Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
