Prof. Dr. med. Igor M. Sauer

Prof. Dr. Igor M. Sauer is a Surgeon and Head of Experimental Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
He is an expert in the field of bio-artificial organs, decellularization and recellularization of organs, extracorporeal organ support devices, and transplantation. Furthermore, he conducts interdisciplinary research and development in the field of »Extended Reality« for image-guided surgery and simulation in surgical practice.
In 2008 he defended his postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) entitled »Innovative therapeutic strategies in liver failure – artificial, bioartificial and biological liver support concepts«.
In 2014 he obtained his professorship (APL), in 2018 he became full professor for Experimental Surgery and Regenerative Medicine at the Charité.
