Master Open Design Cohort 2021-2023
3rd Semester in Berlin is Almost Over
After two semesters of online interactions, 27 students came together in Berlin for their third semester of the international interdisciplinary Master’s program »Open Design«
While having focused in the themes Elements and Experiments during previous semesters, Projects has been the key word guiding the student’s work during these weeks. Their focus has been on analyzing specific interdisciplinary design processes and applying design strategies for the development of innovative projects, bringing together the various elements of Gestaltung and empirical methods. Along with attending the main Seminars Spatial Structures, Media Technologies, Design Strategies and Intercultural & Interdisciplinary Competence, Open Design students had the chance to meet MOD Graduate Heidi Jalkh to share experiences on the program and talk about how to address the work in the master thesis starting next semester.
The students also joined MoA members in a special BBB in May where the six MoA projects were presented and possible collaborations for semester projects and final theses were developed.
Collaboration with Coop Design Master
During June MOD students joined Coop Design Research students in a two day collaboration event with the Bauhaus Foundation. During the preparatory workshop the students from both programs took their diverse cultural and disciplinary approaches as the starting point for multidisciplinary explorations of current modes of knowledge, practices and discourses of cleaning and filtering: topics such as the science of dirt, filtering in and out humans, antiseptic skepticism were the subject of experimental exercises and discussions.
The students are currently working in developing their Laboratory Projects, the final seminar for this semester. If you are interested in following up with the outcomes of Laboratory Projects, mark July 25th in your calendar and come visit the final exhibition from MOD Students. An invitation will follow in the coming days.
