Master Open Design
Cohort 2021-2023 Virtual Semester Kick-Off
The beginning of a new semester is always an exciting time, but this was a very special one. We finally kicked-off the first virtual semester of the international interdisciplinary Master’s program »Open Design« with 40 students joining the course from all over the world. In the opening week we asked our students to take »branch walks« together through the streets of Berlin, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok, Singapore, Bangalore, New York, Cuernavaca, Poznań and many others, interchanging visual impressions and audio files discussing different topics ranging from ecological and sustainable design, the philosophy of the Anthropocene to emergency design and DIY, for instance. Have a look at the constellations and creative brainstorming outputs here. With the opening workshop »Interdisciplinary Identity« we started building the Open Design community and are eager to see where this journey will take this diverse group of students and team of teachers throughout the next two years of open design, knowledge exchange, and radical interdisciplinarity. In the words of the two directors of the program Rodrigo Martin Iglesias from Universidad de Buenos Aires and Wolfgang Schäffner from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin it is definitely going to be a transformative one. So »Welcome to Open Design! Bienvenidos! Willkommen!«
