Last Tuesday, May 28th, »Matters of Activity« welcomed the French Minister for Higher Education and Research Sylvie Retailleau. The directors of the Cluster of Excellence, Prof. Dr. Claudia Mareis, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schäffner, Prof. Dr. Peter Fratzl, and Prof. Dr. Horst Bredekamp, were joined by the Vice-Provost for International and European Affairs of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Dr. Yoan Vilain, the Embassy Counselor Siegfried Martin-Diaz, and Hugo Zusslin, the Attaché for Science and Technology.

After a presentation of the four Cluster directors about the current research of »Matters of Activity«, Prof. Dr. Patricia Ribault, MoA Professor for Performative Design Research at the weißensee school of art and design berlin spoke about the strong connections and cooperations of MoA with French colleagues and institutions, especially on the interdisciplinary bridge between the humanities, design, and neurosurgery as part of the French-German Brain Roads project, in which Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Picht, MoA Professor of Digital Surgery at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, is also involved.
Then, MoA researchers Rasa Weber and Natalija Miodragović gave concrete insights into their work in the MoA Design Studio, before Iva Rešetar gave the minister a short tour of the Activarium, the Cluster's showroom where she could experience some of the prototypes from the field of alternative building materials, sustainable bio-inspired design and the ability of people to act in (museum) spaces.

The framework for Sylvie Retailleau's visit was provided by the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Germany from May 26th to 28th, 2024.
