Young International Fellows at the Cluster
The Young International Fellows are a funding format of the Cluster which is intended to give projects the opportunity to obtain additional expertise and experience. Funding is provided to young international researchers for measures, programs, and activities that support the individual academic and professional qualifications and goals of the applicants and ideally also strengthen a culture of equal opportunity and diversity within the Cluster. Emma Sicher Weaving
Emma Sicher obtained her bachelor’s degree in design and art at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano where she worked as a research assistant, and where she is currently concluding her MA in Eco-Social design. As a biodesigner and fermenter she investigates sustainable materials and foods that can be produced and augmented with the intervention of microorganisms. Her research focuses especially on the production of cellulose-based biofilms obtained through the microbial fermentation of agri-food waste, their transformation into valuable substances, and the development of food and non-food application scenarios. Currently, she is working on her MA thesis that focuses on SCOBY and mycelium fermentation as social empowerment means for innovating territorial gastronomic identities as a resilient model for navigating upcoming ecologic and social shifts. Emma will be fellow from 01.05.to 30.06.2022. Further information
