Nicole Theresa King

Nico King is an artist-designer and researcher who studies landscape as medium, material, and infrastructure. Informed by materialist ecological thought and speculative design, she probes the role of designed environments in the co-production of cultural and ecological futures.

In her current research, The Anthropocene's Post-Oasis: Designing Nature and Landscape in Southern California, 1945–65, King examines modern horticultural imaginaries and their contemporary ecological afterlives. At its center are landscapes in which ruin and resilience converge with an engineered “semi-tropical” nature.

King earned an M.A. in Critical Studies from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and an M.S. in Landscape Architecture from BOKU Vienna. Her doctoral project is co-advised by Pınar Yoldaş (University of California, San Diego) and Alena J. Williams (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna).
