Christiane Arndt

Christiane Arndt is a Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. Christiane held Humboldt Fellowships at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2013) and at the Institute for the History of Medicine and Science Studies in Lübeck (2018). In 2024, she was a DAAD-funded guest researcher at the »Matters of Activity« and returned as a guest in 2025. Her current research examines how material practices – such as gardening and knitting – shape contemporary literature, and she also studies the literary and visual representation of disease around 1900. Additional interests include nineteenth-century German Realism, cultural minimalism, photography and literature, and historical anti-vaccination images and narratives.
