Dr. Patrick Kwon
Patrick Kwon completed his doctoral degree in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2022. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biomaterials at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, he focuses on beeswax luminaires as a sustainable alternative to conventional light bulbs.
His work involves interdisciplinary methods such as material property characterizations, parametric modeling, and robotic experimentation, leveraging the strengths of materials physics, engineering, and design. He also develops bioinspired structures to explore the relationships and potential programmable interactivities between external environments and internal architecture.
