Congratulations to Cluster Member Karin Krauthausen!

Visiting Professor at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Invited Fellow at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne

We are thrilled to announce that Karin Krauthausen has taken on two prestigious academic roles, running from April until September 2026. She is a visiting professor in the Department of Cultural History and Theory at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, filling in for Wolfgang Schäffner's professorship. She is also active as an invited fellow at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, where she is focusing on her research project, »Reading the Forest« (»Den Wald lesen«). The project examines exemplary forest locations, practices, and histories, challenging the notion that there is a single, universal definition of a forest. Rather, it shows how forests have a long, evolving history deeply intertwined with regional political, economic, and cultural systems. Congratulations to Karin on these outstanding appointments – wishing continued inspiration and success in her research and teaching this semester!

Colored copper plate engraving in Kaspar Heinrich von Sierstorpff’s Über die forstmäßige Erziehung, Erhaltung und Benutzung der vorzüglichsten inländischen Holzarten from 1796 (the illustrations are without page numbers and their position differs in the bound copies still in existence). On the right side, a forester is pointing towards the propagated spruce forest for timber production while he and his colleague are standing in a sparse mixed forest with mast trees and pastures from the traditional common land management. (Digitalization: Leibniz-Informationszentrum Technik und Naturwissenschaften – TIB Hannover, https://goobi.tib.eu/viewer/image/1669496422/294/, PDM 1.0)K
