Wooden Books
Karin Krauthausen Speaks about Xylotheques at International Conference in Geneve
Cluster Member Karin Krauthausen will give a lecture on »Wooden Books: Historical and Contemporary Xylotheques as Epistemic Tools« at the conference »BEYOND BOOKS: Instruments and Knowledge in Libraries« on January 15th. The international conference at the Musée d'histoire des sciences Genève aims to reconnect libraries, instruments, and books. Wood book collections emerged at the end of the 18th century, and consist of 100 or more pieces that can often be opened like a book, but contain the dried leaves and fruit of the tree from which they are made. Krauthausen will present and discuss the different forms and functions of historical and contemporary xylotheques in Germany, using the example of the collections of the Technical University of Munich.
