José D. Cojal González schloss 2018 seine Promotion in Experimentalphysik an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin ab, wo er die Entstehung von 2D- und 3D-selbstorganisierten (makro)molekularen Organisationen und deren strukturelle, optische und elektronische Eigenschaften untersuchte.
Josés Forschung im Projekt Filtering konzentriert sich auf die Entwicklung der neuen Generation von Molekularfiltern ausgehend von 2D-Materialien und hochspezifischen molekularen Systemen, die durch molekulare Erkennung und Dynamik aktiviert werden. Auch die Methodik, die experimentelle Messungen mit Rastersondentechniken und Spektroskopie mit Computersimulationen und Datenvisualisierung kombiniert, sowie die dadurch erzeugten (gefilterten) wissenschaftlichen Patterns sind ein grundlegender Bestandteil von Josés Arbeit.
